Car Scrap Yard Toronto: What Your Car Is Really Worth

Your exact price depends on four things: how much the car weighs, what condition it’s in, what parts are still on it, and what steel and metal prices are doing that week.

Two real examples:

• 2016 Toyota RAV4, running, high mileage, some rust, converter attached: $1,200–$1,600
• 2004 Honda Civic, no engine, stripped shell: $400–$600

One thing this price does not cover: loose scrap metal with no car attached to it. That’s priced differently — a scrap metal dealer, not an auto recycler, is the right stop for that.

“Scrap yard,” “auto wrecker,” “auto recycler,” and “junkyard” all describe the same regulated type of business in Ontario — a facility licensed to buy end-of-life vehicles, strip them safely, and put the metal and parts back into use. The name changes depending on who’s saying it; the license and the process don’t.

1. Scrap Car Removal. Free towing, any condition, anywhere in our service area. This is the part most sellers interact with directly — the call, the quote, the pickup — but it’s the front end of a full recycling operation, not a standalone service.

2. Junk Car Recycling. Every vehicle we take in gets properly depolluted before anything else happens. The average car holds 40+ litres of fluids — oil, coolant, brake fluid, fuel, air-conditioning refrigerant — and all of it is drained and handled as regulated hazardous waste. This step is required under O. Reg. 85/16, and it’s the clearest difference between a licensed operation like ours and someone with a flatbed and nowhere to send the fluids.

3. Auto Wrecking & Used Parts Recovery. Once a vehicle is depolluted, we dismantle it ourselves and pull anything still usable — engines, transmissions, doors, seats, catalytic converters, alternators — for resale. This is the step behind most “scrap yard for car parts near me” and “auto wrecker” searches: a properly dismantled vehicle keeps other cars on the road instead of everything going straight into a crusher.

4. Metal Recycling. Once the reusable parts are gone, the remaining shell is crushed and shredded, and the steel and aluminum go for recycling. Most of a vehicle’s weight ends up reused rather than landfilled.

Catalytic converters. If your car has sat outside for more than a couple of weeks, someone may have already looked at your converter — theft is a real, ongoing problem across the GTA. Value depends on the platinum, palladium, and rhodium inside it:

• Standard sedan: $150–$400
• Hybrid, European, or luxury models: can run well past $1,000

If it’s still on the car at pickup, its value is already built into your quote. If it’s already gone, tell us before pickup so your number reflects the car you actually have.

Batteries. Priced by weight and lead content, not by whether they still hold a charge — a dead battery is worth the same as a working one.

• Standard lead-acid battery: $5–$50
• AGM battery (common in newer cars): priced higher

You don’t need to remove the battery to sell the car — it’s already part of your quote.

Yes. Spring (March–May) pays the most — yards are restocking after winter, and metal prices tend to rise. Winter pays the least. The difference can be a few hundred dollars on the same car.

If your car needs to go now, don’t wait on timing alone — a car sitting outside for weeks carries more catalytic converter theft risk than most sellers gain by holding out for the season. • Will they commit to a number over the phone — or only “after they see it”?
• Do they charge for towing, admin, or an “assessment,” even quietly?

• Do they actually handle depollution and dismantling themselves, or just flip your car to someone else?
